Settling In
OK...first off, trying to figure out which link to click to write a new post when all of the links are in Greek is not so easy. My growing up near the frat and sorority houses is really coming in handy now! As you have probably deduced, I'm in Greece. Not only am I in Greece, I am on Paros. We got here yesterday afternoon and moved in. Our apartments are all very cool. We spent the entire afternoon- and some of the evening- running between rooms to look at them all because they are all different configurations. One even has a spiral staircase that leads to a bedroom! Paros is beautiful, but I will get back to that.
I'm sorry that I have not kept you all up to date by posting on this here blog, but I have been so busy. My month in Italia was a whirlwind. It feels like only yesterday that I left home when in fact it has been over a month. I enjoyed Italy immensly. Everyday, well almost everyday, we went to different cities. We went to Firenze, Lucca, Siena, Pisa, Pistoia (where we lived), Venezia and Roma. We learned all kinds of things about art history...specifically about the 1200-1500's. I really enjoyed being able to see all of the buildings, paintings and sculptures that I have heard about all of my life. I would go into further detail now, but if I start, this blog post will be so long that none of you will read it.
A little bit about the Villa Rospigliosi (and the food)... The Villa Rospigliosi is a Renaissance villa that is owned by the church. It is a little ways outside of the center of Pistoia, tucked on the side of a hill between two olive groves. It was the perfect combination of country and city. The best part of the villa was the food and I would be crazy if I didn't tell you a little bit about it. We had homemade meals in Italy. If we were home (so every night except those we spent in Venezia and Roma), some Pisoiese ladies came and cooked for us. They made wonderful meals. There was always a pasta course (of which my favoirites were gnocchi with pesto sauce, penne with a red pepper sauce, and spaghetti) and then a meat and vegetables course. Occasionally the ladies would make desert cakes for us. Usually we would have an apple cake thing, but the last night in the villa they made us Tiramisu! It was the best! It has been over a week since we left the villa and let me tell you, it has been a hard week being away from that villa food. I will survive however because Greek food is also really, really good.
I don't have time for a long post, but I wanted to give an overview of sorts. I will hopefully (don't count on me, but I will try) post more about specific towns and things that we have done soon. Now that we are settled, I will most likely have more energy...however I will probably be putting all of my energy into my work. I hope all is well with everyone and I hope to talk to you soon!
If you've got some time on your hands, please email me I'd love to hear from anyone and everyone! That address is liscarney@gmail.com
